Commercial Forest (CF) Lands used for Fishing

Updated: Aug 22

There are over 2 million acres of privately owned forests enrolled in the Commercial Forest (CF) program for fishermen to access by foot. Most landowners do not allow motorized vehicles on their land. Commercial Forest (CF) Lands may be fenced or gated but are open to fisherman. Fisherman must have a fishing license. There are some restrictions:

  • No camping

  • No leaving anything unattended including bait

  • No damaging or injuring any vegetation and trees with nailing or cutting

  • No littering

The Michigan DNR has a great web page to answer questions on Commercial Forest (CF) Lands,
