Five “S’s” of wine tasting

I came across an article the other day that I picked up at a winery in New Hampshire it talks about the five “S’s” of wine tasting. I thought I would share with all of you what I learned that day at the winery.

  1. The first S is See. Checkout the color of the wine

  2. The second S is Swirl. Tilt your glass and slowly swirl the wine.

  3. The third S is Smell. Take a small sniff of the wine and see what flavors you can pick out.

  4. The fourth S is Sip. Take a sip and allow it to sit in your mouth before you swallow.

  5. The fifth S is Savor. Take another sip and enjoy the flavor.

I have simplified what I learned that day. The most important thing I learned was to enjoy each wine and never hurry when enjoying wine. Michigan has so many wonderful wineries and tasting rooms. I hope you will have a chance to check out a few.
