Holland is a Lake Michigan shoreline beach town that sits on Lake Macatawa,a 1780 acre lake which is fed by the Macatawa River. Holland is in western Michigan and covers over 17 square miles; 9 square miles in Ottawa County and 8 square miles in Allegan County. Holland gets its roots and architecture from a long past Dutch culture. Holland is a pet-friendly beach town, with several attractions and recreational areas happy to welcome your furry friends. Their downtown town state of the art snowmelt system keeps streets and sidewalks free of ice and snow through the winter. Holland has sandy beaches and great shopping. Dutch shops and restaurants. Holland State Park is a wonderful asset to this area. Across the channel from the park is the Holland Harbor Light,normally referred to as "Big Red." The lighthouse was built in 1872 and sits on the pier on the southside.
Holland is home to both arts and music with the Holland Area Arts Council, Holland Symphony Orchestra and Holland Chorale.The downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In May each year Holland has been hosting the Tulip Time Festival since 1930.
There is a private community called Castle Park consisting of around 100 cottages and summer houses along a 40 acres tract on Lake Michigan within Allegan County. It is the former Castle Park estate of Michael Schwarz. Schwarz's brick, turreted castle-style house, built in 1890, now serves as a community center. Castle Park is 1 ½ miles from the Macatawa Dock. Macatawa is a small community near Lake Michigan on 1780 acre, all sport Lake Macatawa. This area has both vacation cottages and permanent residences. The community is on the boundary between Laketown Township in Allegan County and Park Township in Ottawa County.
