Lakeside, Michigan is a southwest Michigan resort community that sits on the Lake Michigan shore in Berrien County, Michigan. This Harbor County community is located between Harbert and Union Pier. Lakeside, Michigan is a quiet laid back beach community, with sandy Lake Michigan beachfront and lots of Harbor Country activities. The Lakeside area has shores, museums, galleries and restaurants. The Wilkinson Heritage Museum, a former trading post built by John Wesley Wilkinson, the founder of Lakeside. The museum has artifacts from the Wilkinson family and Lakeside area history. Many of the area’s leading interior design firms are located in Lakeside. Lakeside Homeowners Association sponsors several events during the year to add to the sense of community. Some of Lake Michigan’s most expensive private waterfront estates are on the lakeside. The lanes off Lake Michigan are narrow with both small older cottages, new beach houses. and grand waterfront estates.
Chikaming Country Club is also within Lakeside and has a long history of elaborate events. Chicagoans like using these venues for special events. Since the early 1900’s people from both Chicago and South Bend have been purchasing vacation homes and weekend getaways in the area. If you like being outdoors, Warren Dunes State Park a 1500-acre preserve is located a short drive away on Red Arrow Highway between Sawyer, Michigan and Bridgman Michigan. The area has bike trails, wine tours and golfing. Chimaming Beach, Pier Street Beach and Cherry Beach are both within Lakeside and have swimming.
