Magician Lake is an All Sport Lake that lies mostly in Dowagiac, Michigan within northwestern Cass County. Magician Lake is 500 acres in size, of which 430 acres sits in Cass County. The remaining 70 acres are in Van Buren County. Magician Lake is located adjacent to Dewey Lake and Cable Lake, Big Crooked Lake, Round Lake and Little Crooked Lake. This area is known as the "Sister Lakes". Magician Lake is 57 feet at the deepest point. The water is clear but quite shallow. There are four islands in the lake that covers about 70 acres that are not developed much. Three of the islands are named: Maple Island, Hemlock Island and Rattlesnake Island. There are several sandbars within the lake. Development around Magician Lake is quite complete. The State owns a large public access site on the north side of the lake that includes toilets, a boat launch parking suitable for 10 trailers and a hard surfaced ramp. Best fishing includes black crappie, bluegill, bowfin, largemouth and rock bass, brown trout, channel catfish, chinook salmon, coho salmon, longnose gar, northern pike, pumpkinseed, rainbow trout, steelhead, walleye and yellow perch. Recreational activities in the area include hiking, biking, golfing, hunting, skiing, ice fishing, sledding and snowmobiling. There are a lot of vacation homes and cottages around this lake. Magician lake is less than 2 hours from Chicago and less than an hour from South Bend.
