Mendon, Michigan is a village located in Mendon Township within northeast St Joseph County.The village covers a little over one square mile and the township covers over 36 square miles. Both the village and the township have the St Joseph River running throughout. The village of Mendon sits on the shores of the St Joseph River and hosts the Mendon Riverfest at Reed Riverside Park each year in August. The park is also used each year for the Mendon Farmers’ Market. Mendon is home to several historic buildings. The Marantette House off Simpson Road was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The Mendon Country Inn was once a stagecoach inn on the route from Detroit to Chicago in 1843. Today the inn is a great bed & breakfast. Portage Lake is located within the township. The lake covers over 510 acres and lots of cottages and year round homes on its shores.
