Last spring I had out of town guests who had not been to southwest Michigan before. I decided to take them on a tour down to Harbor Country when we got to Sawyer, Michigan as we were going by the entrance to Warren Dunes State Park and its stone work sign, one of my guests kept on and on about how great the sign looked. I turned around and went back so she could get a better look and we could get pictures.
I had to admit that Michigan State Park signs are fantastic. I took them into the park to look around. It was too early in the season and the bathhouse mini store was not opened. I had forgotten how much I liked the beach here. My husband and I used to walk this beach a lot. The beach is 3 miles of beautiful sandy Lake Michigan shoreline. The park encompasses about 1950 acres with over 6 miles of hiking trails. I wish we had picked up sandwiches and sodas so we could have enjoyed the picnic area. This park has Cross Country Skiing in the winter. Sawyer is a great community and the park makes it a great outdoor destination. They allow dogs on the trail but must be on a leash. Amenities includes:
Three parking lots
Sidewalk access to beach
